BACKGROUND INFORMATION
What are Primitive reflexes?
We are all born with primitive reflexes that are meant to integrate as a child develops. Sometimes this does not occur and can act as a barrier to learning and show up as sensory, emotional, social and physical difficulties.
Primitive reflex integration
Rhythmic movement, Bal a vis and brain gym use small movements which work to strengthen connections in the brain and support reflex integration
Bal A Vis X – Balance Auditory, Vision exercises
The programme consists of over 200+ exercises, each rooted deeply in rhythm. They range in difficulty from one hand passing /receiving a single sandbag to both hands bouncing/catching four balls in a specifies sequence.
Exercises address visual tracking deficiencies and auditory imprecision, impulsivity, balance and anxiety issues. Bal A Vis X exercises enable the students body systems to experience the flow of a pendulum allowing the brain to shift from fight/flight and calm and relaxed. The exercises support the student to prepare for learning in terms of focusing attention and concentration and memory. The midline exercises support right/left brain integration through strengthening of the connections between both lobes.
Brain and sensory Training
Developed by Sonia Story, the brain and sensory training uses rhythmic movement to integrate retained reflexes and strengthen and integrate left /right brain connections. The exercises are beneficial for all children but particularly those with: Sensory processing issues, learning issues such as dyslexia and dyscalculia, social-emotional challenges, anger, anxiety, trauma, anger, speech delay, ADHD and foetal alcohol syndrome
